Memories Challenge - Day One!

I'm so loving this link-up and I hope you guys are going to enjoy it as much as I already am. Be sure to visit the main page and check out what other people are posting and encourage them along the way.

The one year anniversary of my divorce recently passed and as difficult as the notion of divorce is in the first place, my marriage carried some great memories that make it all worthwhile.

One of my fondest memories of being married to M was our wedding night...and not for those reasons. LOL.

See, most of you know there was nothing conventional about our relationship. We got married in an "unconventional" way, but by military standards it was the norm. We woke up that morning like any other day, got a little spiffy, and headed to the courthouse to tie the knot. When we arrived back at my mom's house, we discovered someone in his family had stolen a great deal of money from him and basically drained what was now our bank account. Yeah guys, on my wedding day. It could have been completely ruined if we had let it. After some angry exchanges, visiting various police departments trying to determine jurisdiction, and going to the bank to raise heck, we were able to get to our hotel and enjoy what was left of our wedding day.

Here's where my favorite memory comes in...

Because his bank account was basically demolished, our idea of a lavish five star wedding night dinner was not going to happen. So, we decided to take in the $5 CiCi's pizza buffet and laugh it off. Normally, I'd be mortified to even eat at this place, let alone on my wedding night but seriously, it was a true test for what "Army Resilience" really meant. We laughed, we gawked over our wedding bands, couldn't believe we actually did it, and chomped on cheap pizza. It was the best and something I can still look back on and smile.

I'll share some more memories of our wedding/honeymoon as the challenge progresses. For now, enjoy evidence of our excitement :)

  1. WOW - I just stumbled upon your blog from Jordan's and I just don't know where to start. Although I have never been through anything as difficult as you, your commitment to the Lord is such an inspiration to me.

Also, I am a born & raised Orlando girl, went to Boone, was a Florida Gator, then moved to Charlotte about 2 years ago. Oh, and I love Jesus too. like, a lot.

I am so glad to have found your blog. I have some serious catching up to do!
