My heart has been heavy all weekend.
By now, everyone should have heard about what happened in Afghanistan. We lost 30 American soldiers. The single most deadly day since the war began in 2003. I am sick.
That's 30 families whose lives are now destroyed. Children who will never hear their daddies voice or see them walk in the door after a hard days work. Wives who will forever lay in an empty bed, holding onto anything that still smells like their husbands. Babies who may never meet their fathers. Moms & Dads who will bury their children. Friends who will only have memories that remain. 30 knocks on doors. 30 "We are here to inform you, that your son, husband, brother, friend..."
Just devastating.
People like to often comment that our guys in uniform know what they are getting into. They knew the risk when they signed up and they know the risk everyday they are over there. True, but they didn't ask to die.
Please keep these families in your prayers. NOW. Like right now. Stop what you're doing. Say a prayer.
Heavenly Father, our hearts are heavy with the news of these brave service members we lost this weekend. Please wrap your loving arms around their families who are hurting in a most immeasurable way. Please comfort them in the days ahead. May they never feel alone and always be surrounded by friends and family to support them and encourage them. Remind us to never forget and do all that we can to serve and protect those who serve and protect us.
Amen.
My heart hurts for those families. I've been reading tributes and bios from newspapers from all over, and my heart hurts more with each one.
ReplyDeleteI know some people say that we know what we are getting into when we sign up, but that doesn't make it any easier on the friends and families that are left behind. They are the ones who ultimately sacrifice the most because they are left to carry on, to learn how to live another life, with such a huge hole in their hearts and lives.
