Today is the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby. It is indeed on my bucket list to attend one of these days. I love horses and any occasion to wear big hats and cute sundresses. I absolutely hated however, a few years ago when that beautiful filly had to be euthanized after the race. I was so devastated by that. I'm not really one for betting and racing and such, but I do love the pomp and circumstance of it all. If they decided to use fake horses, I'd love it even more :)
Two years ago, I attended an amazingly awesome derby party in Orlando. A friend of ours had a high rise apartment over downtown and hosted one of the best shin digs ever. He had catered food, waiters, bartenders, open bar, and even the official napkins and glass cups for us to take home. Wendy & I made our own derby hats and I borrowed a dress from my good friend Jenna. Check it out!
I spent several years living in Ocala which is a HUGE breeding and training ground for derby horses. So, if any of the horses are from there, that's who I will be cheering for. Unfortunately this year I'll be working a festival so I won't be able to watch but are any of you doing anything special?
How fun. I got married the day after Derby weekend last year right across the river. It was super fun! I want to go to the Derby one day, too. But, I love that you went to a Derby party so far from teh Derby. You may have given me some inspiration!
