If you're new to my blog, I apologize because I normally don't go on rants and raves. I'm super annoyed right now and I need to get it off my chest.
I accepted a side marketing job through a friends company back in September for an upcoming breast cancer event. My job is to distribute race sign up information at local businesses with the help of an assistant team lead and some "paid volunteers." The pay is incredible and everything sounded great. I was supposed to start all of this right away in January and have it wrapped up by the end of the month. I start working full-time January 31st, so it was going to work out perfectly. Flash forward to today, and I don't even have all of my materials, know who my team is, etc. and it's the 20th of January. I don't do well with corporate failings or lack of communication.
I have to receive a shipment of over 30 boxes of HEAVY HEAVY printed materials and keep them in my storage unit. I was supposed to be given a 3 day notice so I could be present for delivery and not have to lift a finger going back and forth to put them in the unit. Well, all of a sudden I get a phone call from my storage facility asking if I'm supposed to receive a shipment. WTF!?! I had to drop what I was doing, run over there, and receive a few boxes myself. I had to load them in my car, drive them to my unit, trudge through snow and ice, put them in, and be done with it. Here's where the ridiculousness comes in...
I got a new cell phone so I had to change numbers (don't ask) and since I'm not working directly with the company the event is for and through my friends marketing company, I didn't think to send a massive email out to them letting them know my number had changed. So, they attempted to send this mass shipment to my storage facility who I told to refuse it if it happened again. Well, this pisses off said company that their items were returned to the printer...and this is where I get pissed off.
I've had the same email since possibly 9th grade. Folks, that's about 12 years. This company has it, has communicated with me via it, and for some reason decided that even after not being able to reach me at my new number...to not think to email me. And they're pissed the shipment got refused? NOT my problem. I fired off an email saying basically the above because I just don't do well with corporate BS. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to send an email if a cell phone number isn't working. Not to mention, I was supposed to be given 3 days notice before receiving shipment anyway.
People astound me.
